The Chairman of Charcoal Association in Ekiti State, Isaac Olaniyan has pleaded with Governor Biodun Oyebanji to apportion more land to the association for planting of trees .
Olaniyan made this known during an interview at Ogede farm settlement, Iyemero, Ekiti State.
According to him, the planting of trees are part of the association’s effort in the development of agriculture and to support the good work of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
In his words: “We have been coming here for a while and we are here again to plant trees for the progress of Ekiti State. We have tried to inform the Directors as it was through their efforts we got these trees.
“In the next six years, the trees will be ready. This is because it is not useful to us for charcoal. If the government gives us more lands, we are ready to plant more trees.
“We need a lot of help from the government because for the past six years we have been working and have not received any gain from the government.
Also speaking, the Patron of the association, Kolawole Osasona who noted that the trees were planted on the farm land given to them by the government, added that the government is pleased with it.
“Even when they heard in the third year, about the trees, they were happy with it and we are here to add to the trees we planted three years ago. We will be happy if the government can give us more land to plant on” he said.
He however cautioned those doing charcoal business illegally to join the association in order to plant trees for the growth and development of the State.
