Nigeria partners UN to standardize herbal medicine

The Federal Government of Nigeria has partnered with the United Nations to standardize herbal products in order to ensure safety, proper labellum and ensure international standard.
The partnership was sealed at a conference in Abuja which brought together experts, policy makers and practitioners to chat the future of herbal medicine in Nigeria.
The conference also highlighted the roles of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in ensuring quality herbal medicine and explore strategies for incubating herbal medicine.
The National President of National Association Of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP), Dr Shaba Maikudi assured that every remedies of the herbal products are safe and efficient.
The NAFDAC Rep, Northwest Zonal Director, Shamsudeen Mani said the agency has put every measure in place to control the herbal products.
“NAFDAC has put in place measures to facilitate and control the herbal medicine products.” He said
Also speaking, the Regional Coordinator of UNFIA Africa, Professor Olumuyiwa Babalola highlighted the global importance of integrating traditional medicine into modern health system, adding that partnership is key to achieving credibility and acceptance.
