A ranking member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Bamisile, has assured party members that the governorship primary of the party won’t stoke the fire of division and disunity that could rip the ruling party apart and rob it if victory in the 2022 governorship election.
Bamisile said the party leaders and other bigwigs, including himself, will effectively manage all tendencies within the party, so that the APC can approach the June 20,2026 governorship poll more united, stronger and better focused to prosecute the 2027 general election.
Bamisile said this in view of the emerging fierce scrambling for the governorship ticket among the supporters of interested aspirants within the party.
In a statement released through his Media Office in Abuja on Saturday, Bamisile said those expecting to profit from any post governorship primary division and crisis in APC would be disappointed in the end.
Bamisile said the current flexing of muscles among contending forces was normal in any political context, saying this doesn’t suggest that the APC is embroiled in crisis as being flaunted by the opposition.
The Federal Lawmaker reposed much confidence in the ability of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and other party leaders to wield the right political will and ingenuity to douse any raging tension after the primary, as exhibited after the 2022 primary.
He said what was intrigues brewing in Ekiti APC today was not as fierce as that of pre and post 2022 governorship primary, which the party was able to manage and won the main poll for the APC to consolidate its hold on Ekiti politics.
“I have been reading the feeble and disorganized opposition African Democratic Congress and the People’s Democratic Party mocking our party and expecting that they will profit from any imaginary crisis that will divide us before the 2026 poll.
“I want to assure them that they will be disappointed. APC is a party that is rooted in leadership. We know how to manage whatever crisis we have and I know that the coming primary won’t be an issue that will jeoparidise our collective interest, which is ensuring that Governor Biodun Oyebanji secures second term ticket of our party.
“Nobody is averse to other people contesting. It is their inalienable rights, but they must pursue such ambitions with civility and decorum. The larger interest of our party should be the focus.
“Since 2022 when he assumed office, Governor Oyebanji has demonstrated leadership by exhibiting effective crisis management skills. Even opposition leaders are his greatest admirers.
“That is why it seems the APC is having no strong opposition in Ekiti, because the governor has elevated that principle of homogeneity that binds us together as a people.
“I am quite convinced and confident that this contest won’t be allowed to ignite any fire of acrimony, since all the contenders are of APC political enclave. We are one and this is the most important thing”, Bamisile stated.
