UK-based Nigerian, Anthony Bags 28- year Jail Term For Multiple Sexual Offences Against Minors

A 61-year-old Adewale Sobogun, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for multiple sexual offences against two children over a 15-year period.

The London Metropolitan Police announced the sentence on Wednesday after Sobogun was found guilty of 17 non-recent sexual abuse offences at Inner London Crown Court.

The offences included multiple incidents of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 and rape of a child, committed in the 1990s and early 2000s. The victims were known to him and endured prolonged abuse.

One victim-survivor recounted that Sobogun accompanied her to an abortion clinic after she became pregnant with his child. Police traced medical records and counselling notes that corroborated the abuse.

Sobogun was arrested in July 2025. Detective Constable Charlotte Lockyer praised the victims’ bravery:

“The bravery of the victims in coming forward is what brought Sobogun to justice… Their bravery in the face of an abuser has stopped Sobogun from causing further harm to society.”

In a joint statement, the victims highlighted the hidden nature of such abuse and urged others to speak up:

“What has come to light is deeply distressing, but sadly, it is not an isolated situation… If you have experienced abuse, your voice matters, and you deserve to be heard, supported, and protected.”

The case was handled with a victim-centred approach, including video-recorded interviews in specially designed suites.
