Group hails Omo Edema uncommon investigative journalism

…says his works have saved countless ordinary Nigerians

An Ekiti based group, Defenders of Civic Rights (DCR), has lauded efforts of a fearless, dogged and committed investigative reporter, Babatunde Bamigboye, popularly known as Omo Edema, for having impacted many lives of the common man with his works as an investigative reporter.

The group said role of investigative journalism remained indispensable in a society where many crimes go unreported, vulnerable silenced by fear, and injustice sometimes thrives behind closed doors.

A statement by the DCR ‘s spokesperson, Laide Ojo said stories of exploitation, human trafficking, ritual practices, abuse of power, and unresolved crimes often linger in darkness across communities with victims left without a voice and perpetrators believing they are beyond accountability.

“It is within this challenging landscape that courageous journalists emerge, not merely as reporters of events, but as watchdogs, truth-seekers, and advocates for justice.

“Among the few who have dedicated their lives to this demanding mission is Babatunde Bamigboye, popularly known as OMO EDEMA. For more than two decades, OMO EDEMA has distinguished himself as one of Southwestern Nigeria’s most fearless investigative journalists, broadcasters, and social justice advocates.

“Through relentless investigations, undercover operations, and community-based intelligence gathering, he has exposed criminal activities, uncovered hidden truths, and championed the cause of ordinary citizens who might otherwise have been forgotten.

“His fearless approach to investigative radio journalism has earned him widespread recognition and frequent comparisons to the legendary late broadcaster, Kola Olawuyi, a pioneer renowned for exposing crime and social vices.

“Today, OMO EDEMA serves as a Director at Mercy-Babs Communications and as the Chief Operating Officer of Adamimogo Communications Limited, where he continues to influence the media landscape through impactful journalism. Broadcasting Career and Media Platforms Omo Edema’s investigative reports are delivered primarily in the Yoruba language, making them accessible to millions across Southwestern Nigeria.

“His broadcasts combine eyewitness accounts, raw audio evidence, interviews, field investigations, and real-time tracking of criminal activities. His flagship investigative programme, “OwayaMi” and Gong nso Pelu Omo Edema), have become a household name among listeners.

“The programs focus on uncovering human rights abuses, exposing fraudulent spiritualists, investigating suspicious deaths, and bringing hidden societal issues into public view. Over the years, his programmes have aired on several notable radio stations, including the Adamimogo FM Network, Fresh FM network branches, Adaba FM in Ondo State, Voice FM in Ekiti State, and other regional broadcast platforms. Beyond traditional radio, Omo Edema has built a strong digital presence through his YouTube Channel and Official Facebook Page, where he streams live investigations and discussions to audiences both within Nigeria and across the diaspora.

“Notable Investigations and Public Interest Cases Throughout his career, OMO EDEMA has handled numerous high-profile and often dangerous investigations. One of the most notable was the Leah Sunday Human Trafficking Case (2023). In this investigation, he exposed allegations against an Erio-Ekiti-based pastor, Orimikoya Hezekiah, who was accused of facilitating the trafficking of a 17-year-old girl, Leah Sunday, to Libya under false pretences.

“Through persistent investigation and public pressure, Omo Edema tracked down the suspect and brought critical details of the case to public attention. In 2025, he launched an intensive investigation into the mysterious death of Police Inspector Yusuf Suleiman Blessing, popularly known as “BS Omo Alhaja.”

“His independent findings and field footage raised critical questions surrounding the circumstances of the officer’s death at River Akotogbo, prompting wider public scrutiny. He also gained significant attention through the widely discussed Fakuade Atrocities Investigation, a series of broadcasts that exposed alleged spiritual scams, exploitation, and abuses affecting rural communities. Earlier in 2018, while investigating allegations involving commercial transport operators in Akure, Ondo State, Omo Edema was reportedly attacked by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

“Despite the physical assault and threats to his life, he pursued legal action and continued his investigations, reinforcing his reputation for resilience and courage. Legacy and Impact The name “Omo Edema,” which translates to “Child of Edema,” is a tribute to his late father, Michael Olusola Bamigboye (Edema), whose memory continues to inspire his work.

“Over the years, Omo Edema has built a reputation for tackling issues that many fear to confront—ranging from ritual-related crimes and human trafficking to fraudulent religious practices and deep-rooted communal conflicts. His investigations often place him in direct confrontation with powerful interests, exposing him to threats, lawsuits, intimidation, and reported assassination attempts. To those whose actions are brought into the spotlight, he may be viewed as a formidable adversary.

“Yet to countless victims, listeners, and members of the public, Omo Edema represents something far greater: a voice for the voiceless, a defender of justice, and a symbol of hope in a society where truth often struggles to be heard. His legacy is not merely defined by the stories he has reported, but by the lives touched, the injustices challenged, and the enduring belief that no matter how deeply the truth is buried, someone must be willing to uncover it.”
