Ekiti LG Polls: SIEC Seeks FRSC Partnership For Free, Credible Election

In line with its objective of partnering with relevant stakeholders for effective service delivery, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Rt. Hon. Justice Cornelius I. Akintayo (Rtd), on Wednesday, 7th October, 2026, led a delegation of Commissioners and Principal Officers of the Commission on a courtesy visit to the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, FCIPurS, MCILT, at the Command Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.

The visit, according to the Commission, was aimed at soliciting support, collaboration and synergy towards ensuring a peaceful, free, fair and credible Local Government election scheduled to hold in December, 2026.

In his remarks, Justice Akintayo thanked the Sector Commander for the warm reception and commended him for his commitment to safety of lives on Ekiti roads, his exceptional leadership and effective collaboration with other security agencies in security management, which contributed to the success of the last governorship election in the state.

The SIEC Chairman said the purpose of the visit was to formally inform the Command of the Commission’s readiness to conduct the forthcoming council polls and to request adequate traffic management and security coverage before, during and after the elections.

He emphasized the need for close collaboration to prevent vehicular breakdown of election logistics vehicles, road obstructions and traffic congestion which could trigger electoral violence and other electoral malpractices.

Responding, the Sector Commander, CC Sanya Adeoye, appreciated the SIEC Chairman and his team for the visit and assured them of the Corps’ total commitment to a hitch-free election.

Adeoye outlined the roles of the FRSC during elections to include certification and inspection of vehicles to be used for deployment of electoral officers and materials to avoid vehicular deficiencies; enforcement of restriction of movement on Election Day except for those on essential election duties; and deployment of personnel to polling units alongside other security agencies for election security management.

He assured the Commission that the Command will remain neutral and professional in line with the Code of Conduct for security agencies on election duty.

The visit ended on a cordial note with exchange of pleasantries and group photographs.
