Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has lauded the brilliant contributions of Hon. Justice Oyebisi Folayemi Omoleye to the administration of justice and legal jurisprudence in Nigeria.
Fayemi said there is still a lot for the nation to benefit from her wealth of experience, even in retirement.
He stated this at the weekend in Lagos during the 70th birthday celebration and retirement party of Justice Omoleye, who served meritoriously as the first female Chief Judge of Ekiti State before her elevation to the Court of Appeal.
Justice Omoleye retired as the Presiding Judge of the Akure and Ekiti Divisions of the Court of Appeal.
Fayemi said it was a great delight to join the celebrant and her family for the milestone, describing her judicial career as exemplary and impactful.
As part of the celebration, two books written in honour of Justice Omoleye were presented at a book launch chaired by renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN.
The ceremony was graced by prominent dignitaries including the Governors of Abia State, Alex Otti; Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; and Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, who was represented by his Chief of Staff.
Others in attendance were former Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo; former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola; former First Lady of Benue State, Mrs. Yemisi Suswam, and many other dignitaries from across the country.
Fayemi reiterated that Justice Omoleye’s meritorious service on the bench and her contributions to legal jurisprudence remain a reference point, adding that her retirement offers another opportunity for the nation to continue to tap from her rich knowledge.
Fayemi reflected on Ekiti’s political history, leadership succession and the challenges that had shaped governance in the state.
Describing himself humorously as a teacher in the business of state administration, he said earlier political leaders had the advantage of making critical decisions, while succeeding generations had to contend with their own political battles.
He recalled past political challenges and legal appeals, thanking God that the progressive fold had weathered the storm and prevented key talents from being lost to the bench.
Fayemi also expressed pride that his daughter was subsequently appointed a High Court Judge in Ekiti State.
He urged current leaders to sustain unity and preserve the progressive vision in Ekiti State.
