Wase Hosts Lar Leadership Institute Planning Committee, Says Lar Predicted His Emergence as Deputy Speaker

Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, has declared his full support for the proposed Solomon and Mary Lar Leadership Institute, describing the late Chief Solomon Daushep Lar as a leader who lived light years ahead of his time.

Wase stated this on Thursday when he received in audience the Central Planning Committee (CPC) of the Institute in Abuja, as part of ongoing stakeholder consultations ahead of its public launch on November 24, 2026.

According to Wase, Baba Lar was instrumental to his political journey, noting that despite being a Muslim and Lar a Christian, the former Governor of old Plateau State never considered religion when mobilizing massive support for him.

“That marked the beginning of my foray into the National Assembly where I rose to become Deputy Speaker which Baba Solomon Lar predicted, and all he said about me has been fulfilled,” Wase recounted.

The former Deputy Speaker described Lar as a deeply intuitive and clinically sound intellectual who consciously groomed many who today hold positions across the political space, both within and outside Plateau State.

He added that had Baba Lar been alive, some of the inter-tribal conflicts witnessed in recent times may not have escalated to their current scale.

Speaking on Lar’s impact on his ethnic group, Wase cited physical infrastructure, emancipation of the traditional institution and several other legacies, stressing that getting leadership right has become a national imperative beyond one ethnic group.

Wase described Baba Lar as a legend whose impact cannot be forgotten and must be amplified to inspire generations through his and Mama Lar’s distinguished public service record.

He commended the Leadership Institute initiative, saying it will become an institute of reference in leadership recruitment and development of leaders committed to building on the proven legacies of Baba and Mama Lar, and promised his maximum support for a successful public launch.

Members of the Central Planning Committee in attendance included the daughter of the visioners, Rt. Hon. Beni Lar, former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mrs Dorgu, DG National Council of Women Societies, Hon. Abdulkadir, Mrs. Amina Okeke, and the Chairman of the Committee, Congressman Bimbo Daramola.
