Be Vigilant; Don’t Allow Criminals to Infiltrate Ekiti, Bamisile Charges Residents

Following spiralling cases of killings, banditry and kidnappings in some neighbouring states, a ranking member of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Bamisile, has appealed to Ekiti residents not to allow criminals perpetrating these horrendous crimes to Infiltrate the state.

To avert any infiltration, Bamisile, a former speaker, advised residents to give prompt and veracious information that can boost intelligence gathering mechanism of the security agencies to the appropriate quarters, to be able to offer the required security cover.

The federal lawmaker representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency II, gave the charge in a statement issued through his Media Office in Abuja, on Tuesday.

Miffed by recurrent cases of killings and kidnappings in neighbouring states of Kwara, Kogi and Ondo States by bandits, Bamisile, described such gory scenarios as suffice to put the Ekiti security agencies and residents on red alert.

He advised that the people can’t afford to be lukewarm or indifferent to the rattling killings of innocent souls and wanton destruction of farmlands, warning that internal connivance with criminals may undo the state and plunge it into unprecedented crises.

The federal lawmaker appealed to farmers to swiftly report any untoward movement in the forests to the security agencies before the entire spaces are infested by criminals, saying silence is no longer golden at this period.

“Intelligence gathering is the bedrock of sound and water forced security cover. This can only be accomplished when residents give reliable information to the police and other security agencies for prompt action.

“We appreciate Governor Biodun Oyebanji and security agencies for quickly nipping in the bud, the occasional cases of kidnapping that reared its ugly head in the state sometime in 2024. It became so ugly to the extent that two monarchs were killed at a spot along Oke Ako-Irele axis.

“The government and security agencies achieved this task because the state actors and non state actors were proactive and patriotic in prosecuting their statutory duties. But they need our people to give information that can help them further.

“Our people should be seriously concerned and troubled about consistent daily killings and terrorism in our three neighbouring states. These were enough signals that we should wake up in Ekiti and these things would not just start in a day, it is going to be gradual.

“The criminals used to start by looking for fifth columnists, internal connivance that can help them with information or by sneaking into area where they want to be operating. This is where our people will be required to give information to the security agencies. They must report every suspicious movement either in the forests or our towns quickly for actions.

“The work of security is not for the government and security agencies alone, but that of everybody, and as a people, we must discharge it diligently and with patriotism”, he advised.
