A mild drama played out in Ilawe-Ekiti ,headquarters of Ekiti SouthWest Local Government on Tuesday as supporters of Senator Abiodun Olujimi in the community dislodged members of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) loyal to former governor Ayo Fayose who were plotting against the return bid of Olujimi in Ekiti South Senatorial District.
Recall that had directed his loyalists in the PDP to work against the political aspiration of Senator Olujimi.
It was gathered that one Hon Wale Onigiobi had called a meeting of PDP members loyal to Fayose to inform them that their principal (Fayose) had adopted an All Progressives Congress(APC) Senatorial candidate ,Yemi Adaramodu to spite Olujimi .
As the news filtered in, PDP members in the seven wards in the community trooped to the venue .
What could have resorted into fracas was later prevented as pro-elements left the venue upon sighting crowd of supporters singing Olujimi’s praises and rebuking all forms of anti-party activities by individual or group within the PDP .
upon recieving the information, mobilised themselves from across the seven political Ward of the town and moved enmass to the venue of the purported meeting in their hundreds to dislodged the Fayose Loyalists saying there would be no room for such anti party activity in their domain.
The event literarily turned to a carnival for Senator Olujimi and other PDP candidates in the South as they chant ” PDP is our party, Atiku our man, Olujimi our choice, Henrich Komolafe our man”
Woman and placard carrying youths also joined the rally. Some of the inscriptions onntge placards read “Ekiti South West LG say No to Anti PDP campaigns, ESWLG youths support Atiku/Okowa and all PDP candidates amongst others.
Speaking at the event the Local Government Women Leader, Princess Stella Adeyemi, who led the women out of the meeting in protest said it was an aberration for any genuine PDP member, no matter how highly placed, to engage in such anti party activity without caution.
“These few people trying to cause are inconsequential. They are only overzealous as I strongly believe Gov Fayose will never indulge in such an act of indiscipline. This is PDP and nothing APC.
” Whoever is interested in joining the APC should freely do so without misleading the unsuspecting voting public. Senator Biodun Olujimi is the PDP candidate and no campaign of calumny will stop Ekiti women from voting for her. She has performed creditably well in Ilawe to deserve reelection.”
Another member who craved anonymity said “Fayose lacks the moral justification to order any sane member not to vote for any PDP candidate.
Fayose should rather redirect his energies towards ensuring victory for his son , Joju, who is contesting for Reps under the PDP in his Central Senatorial district. This South District, Fayose has no business here and we have vowed to stiffly resist any further attempt to discredit our party and any of her candidates”.the source said .
