Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) ,Hon( Dr ) Hellen Taiwo-Adebakin has commended the party’s Governorship candidate in Ogun State ,Hon Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu for using his influence to win hundreds of former members of the All Progressives Congress(APC) to PDP. camp.
Dr Taiwo-Adebakin, Secretary of the former and serving National ex-officio members of the PDP said the huge numbers of former APC APM members that joined the PDP showed that the people of Ogun have indeed rejected the APC in the State.
The new PDP members also declared support for the governorship candidate of PDP in the state,, Dr Adebutu.
Speaking at the sideline of the rally held in Abeokuta , the state capital on Friday ,Dr Adebakin said the calibre of politicians who left the sitting governor Dapo Abiodun showed that the governor and his party had lost touch with with people and can no longer enjoy their goodwill.
Dr Adebakin said ” It is a thing of joy for me as I joined my brother and PDP Governorship candidate in Ogun State, Hon Ladi Adebutu to receive hundreds of former APC members into our party.The huge number of defectors from APC to PDP signpost doom for the ruling party ahead of the 2023.
She said ” It is also a confirmation of the fact the PDP did not commit error in choosing Hon Oladipupo Adebutu as its Flagbearer in Ogun as his influence has continued to attract many members of the opposing political parties to the PDP.
“With what transpired in Abeokuta on Friday ,it would not be an over statement to say that the PDP has won the 2023 even before it is conducted.
” I want to congratulate our candidate,Hon (Dr) Oladipupo Adebutu the party leaders and the new members for the successful outing of our party. ” Adebakin said
The APC defectors came from the three major political blocs in Ogun State For instance , a former Deputy Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Tola Banjo from ex-Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s group; Saka Ahmed from ex-Governor Olusegun Osoba’s group and Yinka Asaye from Governor Dapo Abiodun’s group.
Other defectors were the governorship candidate of LP at the 2019 election, Modupe Sanyaolu, and former councillors in the Amosun-led administration between 2016 and 2019.
Some members of the Labour Party (LP), the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) also resigned their membership to join the PDP.
The defectors were received at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta by the state chairman, Sikirulai Ogundele, Mr Adebutu, and other leaders of the PDP in the state.
