As part of activities lined up to mark his 80th birth anniversary Dr.Teslim Sanusi medical outreach is set to offer free medical service to no fewer than 1,600 diabetic patients in five locations in Nigeria .
The medical intervention would accommodate free eye surgery for 100 cataract patients and distribution of 500 glasses amongst other tests.
Speaking at the Palace of Elerin of Erin-Ile, Dr Sanusi disclosed that, ” over the years I have been celebrating my birthday like any other person in form of a party, so on my 70th birthday, I decided not to be doing party anymore, the best way to celebrate is to reach out to those who need help and how they can benefit, to provide free health care to the people”.
“Erin-ile is not the only choice, all my friends and family decided to organize this medical outreach to all areas where I’ve touched, all areas God has helps me to build my career this programme should go there”.
One of the 50 million medical projects programme,sponsored by many groups comprising of Lions Clubs as well as family and friends in preparation to mark the 80th birthday anniversary of Dr. Sanusi,the celebrant said, ” I offer to do this because, I was a patient of diabetes in 1997, my mother died of diabetes, and one of my sisters and when I became a diabetes patient”.
“I pray to God not to die of diabetes, by the time I got to understand that it’s a disease that can manage to any age , I decided to help those that cannot afford to manage the disease because it’s an expensive disease”.
“About the issue of eyes, when I read that, one of the consequences of diabetes was eyes problem, I was thankful to God that, at 80, I can see very well. So,I decided to help people that have eyes problem through diabetes and for other reasons to provide free screening, treatment and provide glasses for them for free.”
He however enjoined youths in the society to learn how to always be hygienic and take good care of their bodies for healthy living and longetivity of life.
The outreach coordinator,PDG Otunba Dr. Ademola Adesoye said that the Programme is organized to celebrate a great leader of the Lions Clubs who is Passionate about the growth of the clubs.
He said “our leader will be 80 on the 23rd of this month and today happens to be the first day of his birth month that is why we start the medical outreach today.
“The surgery will be taking place at Lions centre built and equipped by Lions at the State Specialist Hospital Asubiaro Osogbo and we also have a diabetes centre in Offa and here in Erin-ile our Dialysis Centre and Eye Centre are under construction.
One of the beneficiaries Chief Michael Sunday Ojo described the celebrant as Philanthropist adding that the medical outreach will go in a long way in helping the community to know the state of their health and how to monitor their health stability.
