The indigenous people of FCT have accused the six Area council chairmen in Abuja and Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA of breaching the fundamental rights of school children enshrined in the 1999 constitution as amended on education, primary health care and dignity of person.
Acting under the auspices of Abuja Original Inhabitants Youths and Empowerment Organisation AOIYEO,a statement by its president ,Commandant Isaac David said “allowing the strike in our primary schools to linger more than necessary by these chairmen and the FCTA amounts to breach of the fundamental rights of these children.”
He said that these children’s fundamental rights to education and primary healthcare services, dignity of their persons as guaranteed under sections 33, 34, 42 of 1999 Constitution and Articles 4, 5, 17,18(3) of the African Charter which were the bedrock and fulcrum of their future have been compromised by these leaders.
Isaac therefore called all the stakeholders to come together to jointly rescue the situation.
How on earth would the so called leaders in FCT watch the foundation of our education and the future of the new generation degenerate into this abysmal level, we are disappointed as citizens, Isaac queried
“Am calling all the stakeholders, let us all come together and join hands together to fight for these injustices against our children, this has to stop, our children must return to class immediately.”
“We have endured enough of this lackadaisical attitude from all our area council chairmen and FCT Ministers. Now a time to call their bluff for action otherwise our children will remain like this to eternity and nothing will happen if we failed to act because I believe in the mantra saying that your life is not decided by fate, you must create the future you want by taking the right actions” Isaac stated
