ECOWAS Summit Ends With Bissau Declaration

The three-day ECOWAS Summit on the future of West Africa has ended in Bissau with a robust and far-reaching document now known as The Bissau Declaration.

One of the facilitators and former Deputy Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly ,Rt Hon Hakeem Jamiu said the summit addressed key regional issues: security, cooperation, inclusiveness, the prevention of Unconstitutional Change of Government (UCG), and strict adherence to the ECOWAS protocol by member states.

“Following extensive deliberation by security experts, academics, diplomats, and civil society representatives, The Bissau Declaration comprises a strong Communiqué, Executive Summary, recommendations, and conclusions.

The summit was formally closed by Her Excellency, Ambassador Ngozi Ukaette, the resident representative of the ECOWAS President in Bissau.

“It was a valuable experience. I would like to express my appreciation to Their Excellencies, retired Generals, other security experts, and all distinguished delegates for their comprehensive contributions and for their support and acknowledgement of the roles played by both myself and my co-facilitator, Cheta Nwanze, throughout the summit. I also appreciated the Amandla Institute for Leadership Development for nominating us as facilitators.”
