The National Democratic Coalition, [NADECO] has acknowledged the significant contributions of Chief Segun Ajibulu in the entrenchment of democratic values in Nigeria .
NADECO Secretary, Chief Ayo Opadokun, specifically singled out Chief Ajibulu for his personal sacrifices at the risk of his life to ensure democracy was enthroned in Nigeria.
Ajibulu ,the President of the Southwest professionals ,was honoured alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Africa’s first literature Nobel Laureat, Professor Wole Soyinka. The award was presented at the public launch of a book authored by veteran pro-democracy activist and NADECO General Secretary/Spokesman, Ayo Opadokun, held at the MUSON Centre on May 20, 2026.
Ajibulu was based in the United States but visited Nigeria covertly at different times in collaboration with other fighters in the battle to ensure an end to military rule.The award was presented at Muson Center in Lagos
The event organised by National Democratic Coalition, [NADECO],aimed at recognising the role of distinguished Nigerians in the turtous campaign to end military rule
The activists were honoured as Heroes of Democracy at the Launch of the book tagged NADECO STORY authored by Ayo Opadokun who was General Secretary of NADECO..
Others at the event were the Olubadan of Ibadan, His Imperial Majesty, Rasheed Ladoja, former Ogun State Governor, Chief Segun Osoba, publisher of Vanguard Newspapers, Chief Sam Amuka, right activist, Olisa Agbakoba, Professor Olisa Agbakoba among many others.
Post humous awards were given to Pa Adekunle Ajasin, Pq Abraham Adesanya, Ken Saro Wiwa, Alfred Ilenre, Douglas Oronto, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola,Chima Ubani,Bamidele Aturu and others
Chief Segun Ajibulu, founder of the Segun Ajibulu Foundation was honoured with a prestigious Hero of Democracy Award in recognition of his courageous contributions to the struggle for the restoration of democracy during Nigeria’s military era and the historic June 12 movement.

Chief Ajibulu was celebrated alongside several distinguished personalities and institutions recognized for their roles in Nigeria’s democratic liberation struggle.
The event also recognized the sacrifices of several foreign allies, pro-democracy organizations, and courageous media establishments that risked everything in support of the restoration of the June 12 mandate and Nigeria’s return to democratic governance.
Speaking at the event, attendees described Chief Segun Ajibulu as a steadfast democrat, grassroots mobilizer, and frontline advocate whose commitment during one of Nigeria’s most turbulent political periods contributed meaningfully to the nation’s democratic rebirth.
The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by patriots and institutions whose courage helped shape the democratic Nigeria enjoyed today.
