The Water Consumers Association (WCA/WASH Committee) has appealed to Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, to urgently intervene in the state’s moribund water supply project.
In a letter dated 31st August 2026 and acknowledged by the Office of the Executive Governor on 1st September 2026, the Association congratulated the governor on his re-election for a second term, but called his attention to the current situation of the water project embarked upon by the previous administration.
According to the Association, the water project was procured on loan in large sums of billions from the World Bank, which the state is paying back on a project-based order and will continue to pay till 2046.
The Association lamented that despite the completion and delivery of the water distribution network, more than 70% of Ekiti residents have never taken a cup of water from it for use.
“It is disheartening to inform you that ever since the water distribution network had been completed as delivered, more than 70% Ekiti residents has never taken a cup of water for use,” the letter stated.
The group appealed for the governor’s timely intervention to make the project workable, especially as the dry season is fast approaching.
