Former Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State chapter, Hon. Yekeen Popoola, has congratulated Ambassador Dr. Mrs. Florence Ajimobi on her appointment as Nigeria’s Governor on the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the 2026–2028 term.
Dr. Ajimobi, Nigeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Austria and the IAEA, was appointed following Nigeria’s election to the 35-member IAEA Board at the 70th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria.
Popoola ,in a congratulatory message described the appointment as a significant diplomatic achievement for Nigeria and a moment of pride for Oyo State.
He said the appointment reflects the growing role of Nigerian professionals in shaping global policy and strengthening international cooperation.
He commended Dr. Ajimobi for her diplomatic service and expressed confidence that she would use the new responsibility to advance Nigeria’s interests while contributing meaningfully to the Agency’s policy direction.
“On behalf of my family, associates and well-meaning Nigerians, I warmly congratulate Dr. Mrs. Florence Ajimobi on this remarkable appointment. Her emergence as Nigeria’s Governor on the IAEA Board is a source of pride not only to Oyo State but to the entire country.
“This appointment places an important responsibility on her shoulders, and I am confident that her experience and diplomatic exposure will contribute positively to Nigeria’s engagement with the international community and the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology,” Popoola said.
He prayed for wisdom, strength and success for Dr. Ajimobi as she assumes the new responsibility, while wishing her a fruitful tenure in service to Nigeria and the international community.
Dr. Florence Ajimobi is the widow of the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who served as Governor of Oyo State from 2011 to 2019.
