Child Abuse :Anambra Police Arrest Woman For Allegedly Torturing Daughter Over Missing Meat

 

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old woman, *Ogechi Ofoma, for allegedly abusing and inflicting grievous bodily injuries on her seven-year-old daughter in Ibollo community, Awada-Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Police, the suspect was arrested following reports that she used a heated knife to inflict burns on the minor as punishment for allegedly stealing meat from the family pot.

Spokesperson of the Command said the incident, which occurred in the suspect’s residence, was reported by concerned neighbours who noticed severe burns on the child’s body and alerted authorities.

Police operatives attached to the Obosi Division responded swiftly and took the suspect into custody. The injured child was also rescued and taken to a hospital for medical attention.

A source at the station said the suspect allegedly admitted to heating a knife and using it on the girl’s body to “teach her a lesson” over the stolen meat.

The case has sparked outrage in the Ibollo community, with residents and child rights advocates condemning the act and calling for justice for the victim.

The Police said the suspect will be charged to court after investigations are concluded, in line with the Child Rights Law of Anambra State.

Meanwhile, the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare has said it is monitoring the case and will ensure the child receives proper care and protection.
