EKITI  RECEIVES 100,000 DOSES OF ANTI ANTHRAX VACCINE 

 

The Ekiti State Government has received 100,000 doses of Anti Anthrax vaccine  from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project.Speaking  in Ado Ekiti, while receiving the doses of anthrax vaccine,the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Ebenezer Boluwade said that the State Implementation Unit of L-PRES has been sensitizing  stakeholders in the beef/dairy, pig and sheep/ goat value chains  on the need to vaccinate their animals against anthrax disease

Hon. Boluwade described anthrax a very serious a zoonotic disease that needs to be prevented  before outbreak.

The Commissioner stressed further that the  State would carryout a massive  vaccination programme targeted towards  prevention  of  the  disease in the State.

In his remarks,the State L-PRES Project Coordinator(SPC), Mr. Olayinka Adedipe lauded the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for making  Ekiti  the first State to receive the anthrax vaccine.

The SPC said the  Implementation Unit of L-PRES would continue to  create awareness and carryout sensitization campaign in the nooks and crannies of the State to ensure that livestock farmers vaccinate  their animals as the best way to prevent diseases in the State.

Earlier,the Animal Health Technical Assistant, Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project,Dr. Abubakar Sodiq said that   the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security through  L-PRES has procured and allocated 100,000 doses of anthrax vaccine to curtail spread of disease in the livestock value chain in the State.

In his remarks,the Director Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security,Dr Emmanuel Osayomi said that anthrax vaccine would prevent the  outbreak of disease that is  transmittable from animal to human or from man to animal leading to great economic loss and at times to fatalities.

The Animal Health Officer, Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project,Dr. Oluwaseun Oluwarotimi appreciated  the State government for showing interest in the livestock subsector as this would help the livelihood of livestock farmers by preventing  loses of their animal.
