The annual Ogun Festival turned bloody in Ado-Ekiti after a man was reportedly stabbed to death .
The deceased, identified simply as” Rotimi” was allegedly attacked with a broken bottle by a man popularly known as “Fuganiser”at about 2:00 p.m.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred under the bridge along *Ijigbo Street* in the Ekiti State capital, where residents and devotees had gathered for the traditional festival in honour of Ogun, the Yoruba god of iron and war.
According to reports, an altercation broke out between Rotimi and “Fuganiser” during the celebration. The situation allegedly escalated, leading to the suspect attacking the deceased with a broken bottle.
Rotimi reportedly died on the spot from injuries sustained in the attack.
“As of press time, the real identity of ‘Fuganiser’ was yet to be ascertained,” a source at the scene told our correspondent.
The attack caused panic among celebrants, with many scampering for safety. Activities at the festival were disrupted as security operatives and community leaders moved in to calm the situation.
Residents described the incident as unfortunate, saying the Ogun Festival is usually celebrated peacefully to pray for protection, strength, and progress in the community.
The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed that it was aware of the incident and had begun investigations.
The Police Public Relations Officer Sunday About ,said operatives had been deployed to the area and efforts were ongoing to apprehend the suspect.
“We are investigating the matter and will ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice,” the source said.The body of the deceased has been deposited at a morgue in Ado-Ekiti.
As of press time, normalcy had returned to Ijigbo and its environs, but residents said they remained in shock over the incident.
