The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) will hold its 9th Convocation Ceremonies from 17th to 23rd February 2025, featuring a series of academic, infrastructural, and community engagement activities. As part of the event, the University will confer honorary doctorate degrees on five distinguished Nigerians.
A statement by Prof. Chika Asogwa (Chairman, Convocation publicity sub-Committee) quoted Professor Bolanle Tajudeen Opoola, Chairman of the University Ceremonies Committee, that the programme will commence on Monday, 17th February, with a press conference by the Vice-Chancellor at 1:00 pm in the Council Chamber. This will be followed by the commissioning of over 20 infrastructure projects executed under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina.
Projects at the Oye-Ekiti campus include a 1,000-seat capacity hall, the Professor Abayomi S. Fasina Conference Centre, a 3-in-1 Faculty of Science Laboratory, a new Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Centre, a Professorial Office Complex, a Postgraduate Studies Complex, the Faculty of Education Building, the Faculty of Law Complex, an Innovation Hub, and a Sports Complex Pavilion.
The commissioning of legacy projects will continue in Ikole-Ekiti at the Institute of Part-Time Studies and on the Ayedun-Ekiti Campus. These projects include an ultra-modern laboratory, two new 200-seat modern lecture halls, a JAMB-standard CBT hall, a sports complex, a professorial building for the Faculty of Agriculture, a 250-seat lecture theatre, a 3-in-1 1,000-seat Faculty of Agricultural Sciences Laboratory, and two blocks of two classrooms donated by Hon. Akintunde Rotimi.
The University’s longstanding commitment to community service will also be upheld with free healthcare services for residents of its host communities. The initiative will commence on 18th February at the palace of the Oloye of Oye-Ekiti and continue on 19th February at 11:00 am.
A similar outreach will take place in Ikole-Ekiti at 2:00 pm at the palace of the Elekole of Ikole-Ekiti.
On Thursday, 20th February, FUOYE will induct its Engineering students at the Faculty of Engineering Lecture Hall, Ikole campus, between 11:00 am and 12:00 noon. Later that day, at 3:00 pm, the Vice-Chancellor’s Staff Awards of Excellence Ceremony will take place at the Faculty of Science Lecture Hall, featuring personality meritorious awards, edutainment, and the launch of a ₦100 billion Endowment Fund.
At 2:00 pm on the same day, students from the Department of Theatre and Media Arts will stage the command performance for the convocation at the TMA Complex. The presentation is expected to engage and inspire the audience while addressing themes relevant to national development.
On Friday, 21st February, the University will award Bachelor’s degrees, Diplomas, and prizes for outstanding graduands at the 1,000-seat capacity hall on the Oye-Ekiti campus. A special Jummah service will also be held at the University Mosque.
The convocation grand finale will take place on Saturday, 22nd February, beginning at 11:00 am. The event will feature a convocation lecture by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Architect Sonny Echono, followed by the award of Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s degrees, and Doctorate degrees.
The ceremony will also include the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on five eminent Nigerians.
The awardees are Chief Christopher Adebayo Ojo (SAN), former Attorney General of the Federation; Dr. Kalu Godwin Agabi (SAN), former Attorney General of the Federation; Chief Segun Alebiosu, Managing Director of First Bank Nigeria Limited; Mrs. Layal Jade Tinubu, entrepreneur and wife of Seyi Tinubu; and Chief Allen Ifechukwu Oyema, Executive Chairman of Air Peace.
