The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) on Monday visited the President General League of Imams & Alfas Southwest, Edo Delta,Sheikh Jamiu Keulere Bello in Ado- Ekiti,the Ekiti State Capital .
A statement by Alhaji Yusuf T. Akeusola. Media Officer for the League of Imam and Alfas Ekiti State said the visit was led by the chairman MUSWEN Committee on Political group and Good Governance ,Professor Abdul Rasheed Aderinoye,accompanied by Professor Muslihu Yahya who is the executive secretary of MUSWEN.
In his address , Professor Aderinoye explained that the committee was in Ekiti ,in furtherance to it’s quest fir increase political participation of Muslims in Nigeria.
The Muslim scholar hinted that the core mandate of the committee is to mobilise the Muslims in the South West for effective participation in politics and good governance.
He said the committee had come to consult with the Spiritual leader in the leader and grand Imam of Ekiti State, so that he could help use his good offices in mobilising the Religious leaders, Missionaries and all the Associations for effective participation in governance.
According to him, the meeting would be extended to all the Muslim groups and associations across the South West in Nigeria, as the goal of MUSWEN is unity of purpose, unity of commitment to emplace good governance in each state.
In his remarks ,the Executive Secretary; Professor Muslihu Yahya commended the good rapport that exists between the religious leaders in the state and the Government.
He prayed that such understanding transforms to more inclusion of active Muslims in the political settings in Ekiti State.
Responding ,Sheikh Jamiu Keulere Bello thanked the MUSWEN team for the visit .
The Muslim clergy promised to get the message across to relevant groups and association ahead of the official!visit of the committee to Ekiti .He pledged to mobilize all the stakeholders.
Also speaking , Alhaji Dr. Hammed Afolabi Bakare — the Ekiti State President Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs applauded the good gestures of the MUSWEN political team,
Dr Bakare disclosed that the leadership quality of Sheikh Keulere had ensured good rapport with the present administration in Ekiti .
He said the Muslims have been given a fair representation but assuring that the ummah is aiming at higher levels in politics and governance..
Present at the meeting were; Representatives of the State and Local government Imams, Executives of The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and other Muslim Clerics
