Former member of National Assembly,Senator Ayo Arise has said that the outcome of todays Presidential and the National Assembly elections would show true reflection of the popularity of the participating political parties.
Arise, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC) also said the current cash crunch had made electorates to vote for the parties of their choice without necessarily being induced or coerce.
Speaking after casting his vote in Oye-Ekiti ,Arise who lamented that the Currency Swap policy had brought the economic activities to its knees, however noted that the policy had ensured certain level of sanity in the electoral process.
” We are going to see the true reflection of the popularity of each political parties .It is very difficult to say that somebody has been induced financially. We are hoping that this medicine which is hardly sustainable, except we want to be changing our currency every four years
“.As you can see many of the voters are not really happy and they are not even coming out as expected. Many of them feel the impact of government except the little stipend they get during election. So we must begin to tell government to up their game I the areas of provision of social amenities inorder to jettison the vote – buying thing .
Though, there is a number of ways we distribute our own social intervention in this part of the world ,even before electioneering. And every politicians have his or her own strength of mobilising voters for election. But when those means are blocked it becomes a problem. ” Arise said .
The APC stalwart feared the policy might not be sustainable since government cannot afford to initiate Currency Swap at every four years just because of election.
According to him demonstrated the the possibility of voting without being induced with monetary gains.
Though,expressed worry over the low turn out of voters in his areas describing it as not too impressive but peaceful based on his observation so far.
Arise once represented the Ekiti North Senatorial District at the Senate between 2007-2011 said he was able to garner unalloyed support for his party and Candidate due to his goodwill and evergreen contributions to the development of his communities.
He subscribed to the idea of providing social amenities that would benefit the citizens which he described as lasting rather than giving out tokens.
While the House of Representatives Candidate in the Ekiiti North Rederal Constituency 1 on the platform of the Social Democratic party(SDP),Hon.Bimho Daramola lamented that his party agents were chased away fr the polling units.
Daramola,a former member of the National Assembly lauded the conduct of the poll by INEC saying the political money bags had failed to compromised the elections as voters came out willingly to exercise their franchise without being induced with money.
In Afao-Ekiti Tinubu won the election at the former governor Ayodele Fayose polling unit in Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of Ekiti State
Tinubu garnered 154 votes in St. David Pry School, Afao Ekiti, Unit 001 while the People’s Democratic Party candidate (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, polled 59 votes.
While the Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi scored 14 votes, the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Action Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress got one votes each.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Senatorial candidate in Ekiti Central, Senator Michael Opeyemi has won his polling Unit 003, in Ward B, Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State with 171 votes .
Bamidele defeated his close rival, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial candidate, Lateef Oladimeji Ajijola who got 2 votes.
Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele who is seeking re-election to National Assembly received overwhelming support from the people of Ekiti Central as people await the official announcement of the result.
In the same polling unit, Bamidele ensured the victory of the APC Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who won 155 against his opponent, Atiku Abubukar who scored only two votes at the unit.
As regards the House of Representatives election at the unit, Hon. Steve Fatoba of the APC polled 165 votes while his opponent from the PDP scored 1 vote.
Bamidele was full of thanks, appreciating the voters in his polling unit for voting massively for his party.
