OGUN MONARCH, ESELU OF ISELU KINGDOM SUSPENDED

*for political interference

The Ogun State government has suspended the Eselu of Iselu Kingdom, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, over alleged partisan political activities.

The suspension, approved by the State Executive Council, takes immediate effect pending an investigation into the allegations.

The monarch has been directed to vacate the palace, stop presenting himself as the Eselu of Iselu, and refrain from using royal insignia, including his crown and other traditional symbols of office, throughout the suspension period.

The government said the decision followed complaints about the monarch’s alleged involvement in partisan politics, which it said could undermine the traditional institution and peaceful coexistence.

Oba Akinyemi is also required to make himself available for any government meeting or hearing relating to the investigation.
