Open Letter to Governor Seyi Makinde

Stop Bringing Former Minister to Public Discourse

Your Excellency!
As your tenure winds down, it’s essential to remind you to stay focused on your commitments to fulfill your electoral promises to the people of Oyo State.

We have not seen any significant strides you have made in terms of agriculture, health, and education this second term.

Your Excellency ! With due respect to your office, why do you allow your personal differences with an illustrious son of Saki to spill into public forums, undermining your office’s dignity and distracting from your administration’s progress? As a governor, it’s crucial to uphold the office’s dignity and avoid descending into petty discussions.

I urge you to reconsider your approach to addressing your differences with Alh Hon. (Dr.) Adebayo Shittu, the former Minister for Communication. It’s essential to take these issues out of the public discourse, as it’s unbecoming of a governor to engage in petty discussions.

I implore you to adopt a more constructive approach to resolving differences with Alh Hon (Dr.) Bayo Shittu through private channels, rather than public forums. Engaging in respectful and open discussions to resolve your differences is better.

Your Excellency! You should prioritize the well-being and development of Oyo State, rather than personal interests.

We want you to address pressing state issues, such as Education, Healthcare, Security and Agribusiness. These are critical to Oyo State’s growth.

Secondly, as a bonafide son of Saki and as a legal practitioner , majority of Sakites are deeply concerned about your reaction to the low votes you received in our area and the rejection of your adopted son’s return to the House of Assembly. It’s painful to see that you’ve abandoned many projects that were meant to benefit our community. This feels unfair to us, as you swore to uphold the constitution and ensure justice for all people.

As our governor, we implore you to reconsider your approach and prioritize the needs of our community. Your commitment to serving the people of Oyo State should supersede personal interests and disappointments. We understand that the outcome of the elections may have been discouraging, but abandoning projects vital to our well-being is not the solution.

Rather than dwelling on what happened in Saki during your reelection and the rerun election of Hon. Julius, go on to fulfill your remaining campaign promises and begin to prepare for your out-of-office life so that you will not need to adopt the strategy of Yahaya Bello.

Thirdly, your duty as a father of the state is to foster an inclusive environment, encouraging cooperation and understanding among all stakeholders, regardless of personal differences and irrespective of their faith. By raising the issues of religious politics in Saki, you have been unfair to Dr. Adebayo Shittu.

You should not dabble into an area you knew nothing about sir. The former minister is not the apostle of religious politics in Saki. You will be invited as a Guest of honour to a book launch soon wherein those who introduced religion into politics in Saki will be unmasked.

Your Excellency! With due respect sir. It looks so petty and hypocritical that you spoke about religious politics in Saki. This is a self-defeating contradiction from you sir. At a better forum, we will go down the memory lanes to expatiate on those who are more liberal, tolerant and accommodating than the order. What you have done is by prompting us to open the Pandora box. Thanks for reminding us of the nasty experience of political subjugation, marginalization, divide and rule including the use and dump antics.

Let me conclude with the following advice and recommendations sir. I advise your Excellency to:
i. ensure that ongoing projects are completed to benefit the community,
ii. foster open communication to address concerns and promote understanding among our people insteading of reminding them of the past,
iii. put the interests of the community above personal interests.

By taking these steps, you can maintain your office’s dignity, promote unity, and ensure that your administration remains focused on delivering progress to the people of Oyo State and thereby cementing a legacy as a leader who put the needs of Oyo State’s citizens first.
Sincerely,

AbdulWaheed Lawal
