The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Ekiti State chapter today inaugurated a seven member committee for the inauguration ceremony of the second term of the State Governor – Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji that would come up on 16th October, 2026.
Inaugurating the Committee today at the monthly meeting of the body at Ikere Ekiti , the president of the Council – Alhaji (Dr) Hameed Afolabi Bakare appreciated the Ekiti Muslim Ummah for their massive support and votes on June 20 , 2026 gubernatorial election that gave the Governor the mandate to lead the State for another four year term.

The statement said Dr. Bakare recalled that the Governor has performed very impressively during the first term that the Council was encouraged to give him more support to enable him perform better in the second term to the benefit of the Muslim community in particular and the generality of the Ekiti citizenry as a whole .
The Committee was headed by Alhaji (Chief) Tajudeen Adejumo . Other members included Alhaji Abdul Fatai Ogundele , Alhaji Tiamiyu Hassan, Alhaji Surajudeen Owoeye and Alhaji Bello Ganiyu. Two female members of the committee were Alhaja Fausat Ahmed – Yusuf and Alhaja Maryam Badmos .
The president of the apex Islamic body in the state also canvassed support for all Muslim candidates in the forthcoming elections including the presidential election, National and State Assembly elections and the Local Government elections. He explained that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu has performed very well in his first term and deserves a second term to enable him to consolidate on the good programmes and projects he started towards its successful completion for the benefit of Nigerians .
Dr. Bakare urged the Muslim Ummah to vote for Hon. Ibrahim Olanrewaju and Hon. Tajudeen Olutope Ahmed aspiring to the Federal House of Representatives and the Ekiti State House of Assembly respectively , at the next round of elections.
Commenting on the low enrollment for Arabic and Islamic studies in the tertiary institutions across Ekiti State , Dr. Bakare advised Muslim parents to encourage their children and wards to study courses in the Arabic and Islamic discipline and called on well – meaning Nigerians and philanthropists to award scholarships to indigent students to enable them pursue courses in the discipline to further enhance posterity and Islam.
The religious leader applauded the recently concluded 5 – Day Sharia Workshop in Ado Ekiti , supported by his Council , the Islamic Education Trust and the Dawwah Institute of Nigeria which he described as highly educative and impacting and commended the chairman of the Sharia Arbitration Panel in the State – Ustaz Abdul Ganniy Sulaiman for his dedication and hard work. He remarked that the Sharia Arbitration Panel , set up by the Council in the State has made remarkable contributions to the peaceful coexistence and stability of Muslim homes in the State .
The president advised the Muslims in the state to take full advantage of the Jaiz Bank which began operations in Ekiti State on 1st July, 2026 as an interest – free Bank with both religious and economic rewards it offered them . He thanked the representatives of the Jaiz Bank who were present at the meeting for the enlightenment provided for their members and assured them of impressive patronage by the grace of Allah .
Alhaji Bakare congratulated the Ikere Muslim community for the tremendous growth and development recorded especially under the current leadership of Council and noted that Jumaat Mosques in the community has increased to six. He advised them to sustain the tempo and urged them to remain united in their developmental drives.
Earlier, in his lecture delivered at the monthly gathering of the religious leaders across the state , the chairman of the Council’s Education Committee – Prof. Kamaldeen Olawale Sulaiman noted with dismay the dwindling number of undergraduates in the departments of Arabic and Islamic studies across the tertiary institutions in Ekiti State and called for conscious and concerted efforts to reverse the trend in the overall interest of Islam and the future of the Muslim Ummah in the State.
The meeting of the Apex Islamic body was attended by clerics and leaders across the state who offered prayers for the peace , progress and development of Islam , their communities , Ekiti State , Nigeria and the world .
