Police in Ekiti have arrested One smail Tunji Ibiyeye, alleged to be responsible for the death of 42-year-old Olaitan Amere in Ajegunle, Ido-Ekiti, on June 13, 2026.
Ibiyeye, who is currently in police custody at the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) office in Ado-Ekiti, was reportedly the deceased’s lover. He is said to be an environmental staff member at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, and a native of Ofa, Kwara State.
According to sources, the suspect has allegedly confessed to committing the crime, while police investigations continue.
The late Olaitan Amere was a trader and mother of three who lived with and cared for her elderly, physically challenged mother following her separation from her husband.
Speaking with OMOEDEMA, the deceased’s elder sister, Funmilola Adewumi, recounted how she discovered Olaitan’s lifeless body after becoming worried about her unusual absence that night. She alleged that the victim was found in a pool of blood inside her room after family members traced her phone to the house.
Funmilola further claimed that her sister had previously received threats and referenced an earlier suspected attempt to set the house ablaze.
Police investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
