UNGA Sidelines: Amandla Institute Pushes For Stronger African Voice In Global Governance
The Amandla Institute for Policy and Leadership Advancement has hosted a High-Level Policy Dialogue on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The dialogue, which focused on the theme, *“Africa’s Expectations of the New UN Secretary-General,” brought together policymakers, diplomats, and thought leaders to reflect on the shifting international order and the future of multilateralism.
Deliberations centered on the urgent reforms required to make global institutions more representative and responsive to contemporary realities. Participants agreed that as the United Nations prepares for a leadership transition, it is a strategic moment for Africa to articulate its collective priorities and expectations for the future of the multilateral system.
Speaking at the event, a participant noted that Africa’s growing demographic weight, pressing development priorities, and significant contribution to global peace and security must be matched with greater agency in the institutions and decisions that shape the collective future.
According to the Institute, achieving this would require meaningful reform of the multilateral system and a stronger African voice in global governance.
One of the conveners and former governor of Ekiti State ,Dr Kayode Fayemi said the dialogue provided a platform for robust engagement on how the continent can move from the periphery to the centre of global decision-making.
“I was pleased to engage with colleagues on these important questions and on how Africa can play a more strategic role in shaping the evolving global order,” Fayemi said
