Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) Dr Hellen Taiwo-Adebakin has admonished government at all levels to accord more attention to the welfare of teachers and reward them commensurately.
She made the call while felicitating with Nigerian teachers on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day(WTD) .
Adebakin in her statement issued to celebrate the day said teachers deserve more attention and better treatment from the society and government because of the significant roles they play in the society .
” It will not be an overstatement for me to say that all of us have enjoyed the mentorship and benefitted immensely from the services of a teacher to attain our present status in life.
The PDP chieftain who is also national coordinator of women in politics said ‘ a good and dutiful teacher is not just a person who teaches academic lessons, rather, he is the one who mentors and helps the learner in each sphere of his life.
“The teachers have an important role to play in the development of the society for improved future .I urged the teachers to see their calling as one to assist in the personal and continual development of the learners.
