2026: Ekiti Obas Back Oyebanji’s Second Term Ambition  As Governor Inaugurates Ogoga Of Ikere-Ekiti As New Chairman, Ekiti  Council  Of Traditional Rulers 

The newly installed chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers  and Ogoga of Ikere Kingdom, Oba Adejinmi Adu Alagbado has expressed his determination to provide purposeful leadership that would advance  peace and progress of Ekiti, the nation’s fountdin of knowledge.

Ogoga gave this assurance shortly after he was inaugurated by governor Biodun Oyebanji as the new chairman.

In his acceptance speech at the  Council Obas  Chamber , Ado-Ekiti,  Oba Alagbado declared  total backing and supports  of the traditional rulers to the reelection bid of governor Oyebanji ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial poll.

The foremost monarch  appreciated the Governor for the honour, promised to lead with sincerity and  honesty.

The Ogoga pointed out  that such support is fundamental for the governor’s continued success, progress, peace and development of the state. ”, Every member is welcome with his ideas and suggestions, I am for the good of all”.
To him, while it is true that the traditional institution is apolitical, ” the inference is that we as an institution is part of the organs for or of governance. We cannot and must not be part of politics but we have to support the government which creates this institution in governance”.
The new council is made up of eighty-six royal fathers with sixty-six permanent member and twenty rotational members selected from communities across the state. As part of the mandate, the new council is expected to shape the cultural preservation and offer critical counsel matters that directly affect the lives and wellbeing of Ekiti people.

He also vowed to work hand in hand with other traditional rulers for the development of Ekiti State.

In speech at the occasion ,Oyebanji had  sought the support of the Traditional Rulers in the state for his second term ambition .

The governor  said the monarchs support became imperative for him  to complete all the ongoing projects embarked upon by his administration.

Recalled that Oyebanji, on Monday had formally and officially declared his intention to run for second term in office while meeting with party leaders and members at the APC Secretariat, Ado-Ekiti.

He said his administration is committed to prioritising the welfare of the traditional rulers in the state, while urging the new Chairman to maintain the royal structure by engaging other traditional rulers for the growth and development of Ekiti State.

“It gives me a great pleasure to be here today, your belief in uplifting the greatness of Ekiti has been the stronghold of Ekiti. I solicit your continued support, our progress has been possible as a result of our partnership over the years. I remain committed to my promise to listen to you and prioritize your welfare.

“I appeal to the Chairman to lead with respect for all. I have full confidence in your capacity, ability and trust that the council will go higher under your leadership.

“I want to use this medium to announce that I would be running for second term. I need your support so that we can complete the pending success that my adminstration has done, if given us the mandate, it will afford us the opportunity to finish all pensding projects for the growth and development of our states”.
