The Abuja Original Inhabitants and Youths Empowerment Organisation (AOIYEO) has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his decisive intervention in the prolonged strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in the FCT, which has led to the reopening of schools and the return of pupils to classrooms.
In a statement signed by its President, Commandant Isaac David, the group described Wike’s action as “timely, strategic, and people-oriented,” noting that it has brought relief to thousands of families and restored stability to the education sector in the territory.
AOIYEO noted that the prolonged industrial action had disrupted academic activities and placed an undue burden on parents and guardians, but expressed satisfaction that the FCT Administration, under Wike’s leadership, rose to the occasion to resolve the impasse.
The organisation also lauded the FCT Minister for the recent elevation of traditional rulers across the territory, describing the move as a significant step toward strengthening indigenous institutions and promoting cultural heritage.
“By recognizing and elevating our traditional rulers, the administration has reaffirmed the importance of grassroots leadership and the role of indigenous authorities in governance and community development,” the statement read.
AOIYEO further used the opportunity to pledge the unalloyed support of FCT indigenous communities to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the group, the administration’s efforts in addressing critical issues affecting the FCT, including education and traditional leadership, have reinforced confidence in the current government.
“We wish to assure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the indigenous people of the FCT are fully mobilized and committed to supporting his re-election bid in 2027, as well as all candidates of goodwill contesting for Senatorial and House of Representatives positions,” AOIYEO stated.
The group called on residents of the FCT to continue to support government policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens and ensuring sustainable development across the territory.
