KWANA YA KARE. .
– HIS EXCELLENCY, ALHAJI BAMANGA TUKUR..
I don’t know of too many people who lived to the end thinking of Africa and how the pan African renaissance can be achieved like Baba Bamanga Tukur.
When the black on black violence of 2000 broke and the continent got so badly rattled by the aimless brother against brother attacks, which compelled us to start the One United Africa Foundation with the sole aim to conscientising African leaders who seemed disinterested in looking for an enduring solution, one of the renowned African patriots that we took our dream and mission to was Alhaji Bamanga Tukur CON now gone the way of mortals..
Despite being advanced in age, he was so excited about our efforts and he readily made himself available to endorse the initiative and give his own perspectives to how we can tame the tide.
I and my team spent a good time through his interview and we benefitted greatly from his deepest insights about the Pan African journey that he was accustomed to, he was an African dye in wool. He had many things to talk about how we allowed the priceless earthenware to fall, that we are now trying to put the pieces together, and we needed the support of persons like Baba Bamanga to cement it.
In his house in Wuse 2 Abuja, he took us around the expansive facility, to see a lot of statements, memento, imprints and books about African pan african dream.
There were books, photographs, indeed there is the picture of Halle Sallasie on the wall as you enter his inner room , while the events hall within the premises is called African Hall [ something like that]
Without doubt this is one huge loss to the gravely depleted and fast diminishing stock and ranks of real pan Africanists.
Now that he has gone the way of the Papa Kenneth Kaundas, Julius Nyereres and many others that he met and interacted with, the chances of revisionists to dish out jagged justification about the relevance of the pan african philosophy will thrive.
Baba had been an occupier of different public positions in this country during his lifetime, from the Headship of Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA, to becoming Governor of the then Gongola State, and Chairman NEPAD business sector, not to forget being a ruling party chairman.
Today, on behalf of our foundation, #ONEUNITEDAFRICA i want to send our comforting words of commiseration to the well renowned Bamanga Tukur family of Adamawa State, and beyond, his family, particularly Hon.Awwal his son , the numerous friends and his long standing associates like funmi sanusi and Dotun Ajayi.
Baba was one of the last threads keeping the Pan African renaissance and one of the vestiges if not custodian of the dream to sustain the vision to keep Africans as brothers and Sisters and the nations as one .
May Almighty Allah comfort everyone connected to him in anyway and grant us all the fortitude to bear this great loss of an irreplaceable valuable Son Africa, of Nigerian extraction and Adamawa his state of origin
