A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Bamisile, has saluted the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, over the pledge that he will continually wage relentless wars against those depriving the children of their rights and make lives unbearable for them.
Bamisile stated that this commitment further reinforced the belief that the future of Ekiti children, their wellbeing, and prosperity, are secured and guaranteed under the current administration.
Oyebanji, had at an event commemorating the 2025 Children’s Day Celebration held in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday, threatened to deal decisively with perpetrators of rape , slavery, trafficking and all forms of social, psychological and emotional imbalance against children.
In a statement issued through his Media Office in Abuja, marking the Children’s Day celebration, Bamisile said the behaviour of any child and social contributions in future depend largely on how the society offers, which he said makes the Governor’s pledge apposite and worthwhile.
Bamisile regretted how over 70% of children are being bullied through inaccessibility to education, child slavery, trafficking for prostitution, rape incidences and other socio economic disorders, describing these as not only shocking, but appalling .
The former speaker appealed to parents, school administrators, caregivers and traditional institution to give all the necessary backings to the governor to be able to achieve the set target.
He said: “I am particularly elated by the pledges made by Governor Oyebanji to secure our children, make Ekiti safe for them, and banish all socio economic and environmental factors millitating against them. These are issues that gladdened my heart.
“It sounds so frightening that a child of less than five years were being made to perform the task meant for a 15 -year old girl. This is nothing but slavery.
“Again, the increasing rate of rape of minors should frighten us as individuals. Most appalling was the fact that the acts were being perpetrated by male adults.
“I support the idea that all hands must be on deck to ensure that all the children of school age are made to be in school, because education remains the only leveler between the rich and the poor”.
Bamisile felicitated Ekiti children on the occasion of the annual celebration and promised to support the state government in every effort being intensified to make their future more rewarding and fulfilling.
