A ranking member of the House of Representatives, Hon. (Dr) Femi Bamisile, has saluted Governor Biodun Oyebanji for breaking a landmark record, by approving 65 years retirement age for the teachers.
The Chairman, House Committee on Delegated Legislation, described the policy as a masterstroke, that will strengthen education sector and keep the best human resources within the system.
Bamisile gave the commendation, in a statement issued by his a media Office in Abuja and made available to journalists on Monday.
Enthralled by the policy, Dr. Bamisile congratulated Ekiti teachers for the achievement, praising the state government for its practical demonstration that tutors can now enjoy their rewards on earth.
He appealed to the teachers to reciprocate the gesture, by redoubling efforts and ensure Ekiti shines through outstanding performances in public examinations in the country.
The Federal lawmaker reasoned that with this landmark policy, human resources available to the state can display rare commitments and fully deploy their God-given talents and energies to boost the education sector.
“Let me salute our teacher- friendly Governor, Biodun Oyebanji for giving approval for the extension of Teachers’ retirement age to 65.
” This is one policy that will strengthen the education sector, because our tutors will be ready to give their best to justify the gesture.
“The reality of the current economic situation, whereby graduates often secure jobs at advanced stage makes the policy more plausible and apposite in the development of education sector.
“Before now, anyone who secures job at the age of 40 or 45 could only work for 15 or 20 years instead of the statutory 35 years approved by the governments.
“To me, I consider this five years extension as a tonic that will further revamp the education sector.
“Our teachers must justify the governor’s outstanding gesture, by being diligent, committed, sacrificial and more focused at their duty posts, so that Ekiti can become a cynosure of all eyes in the education sector”, Bamisile stated.
