At least four passengers have been confirmed dead and nine others remain missing after a boat carrying about 138 people capsized on River Katsina-Ala in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.
The Benue State Emergency Management Agency, Benue-SEMA, confirmed the incident on Monday, saying 125 passengers have so far been rescued while search and rescue operations are ongoing for those still unaccounted for.
The Head of Information Unit, Benue-SEMA, Tema Ager, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Makurdi on Monday.
According to him, 138 passengers were believed to be on board the ill-fated boat, though the exact manifest is yet to be ascertained as officials reconcile conflicting figures from survivors, relatives and community leaders.
