If the statement by the Kano State governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje is anything to go by,then the controversies surrounding who becomes running mate to the All Progressives Congress(APC),Presidential Flagbearer may have been laid to rest .
Governor Ganfuje hinted on a report monitored by GHnews that Tinubu has agreed to pick a Muslim as his running mate .
The question of who becomes Tinubu’s running mate has dominated the political space and pundits have been coming up with analysis as to what would shape his(Tinubu’s) choice .
While some are looking at a Christian from the north ,others believe a Muslim from the Northeast would fo the magic for the APC in 2023.
But, the APC is looking at the large chunk of votes from the Muslim dominated northern Nigeria and do not want toy with the fact that the rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had picked a Muslim candidate from the region .
Amongst the names that have been suggested are the former and incumbent governors of Borno state Kassim Settima and Babagana Zulum respectively, Secretary to the Government of the Federation,Boss Mustapha, former speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
Others were governor of Plateau State ,Solomon Lalong and Kaduna State counterparts,Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
Few days ago,a prominent , Tinubu Support Organization (TSO) endorsed El- Rufai as the best choice of running mate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ahead of the 2023 polls.
TSO said it took the decision after its consultation meeting with critical stakeholders of the APC in the North-West geo-political zone.
The group noted that APC has many outstanding individuals among its leaders that can serve as Tinubu’s running mate, but the North-West as the single largest voting bloc in Nigeria should be allowed to produce the next Vice President.
Addressing journalists in Kaduna on Monday, Director-General of Tinubu Support Organization, Hon. Aminu Suleiman, said the choice of running mate was a critical success factor for the victory of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Suleiman said: “After due consultation with critical Stakeholders especially in the North-West, it is of the fact that El-Rufai is Asiwaju’s best choice for Vice President.”
He added the Tinubu Support Organisation was working tirelessly for the election of Tinubu as the next President of Nigeria and it believed that the choice of a running mate was a critical factor.
