Ekiti 2026: Australian Based Medical Doctor, Wole Oluyede Wins PDP Governorship Primaries

 

An Australian based rural emergency medical practitioner, Dr. Wole Oluyede has been declared the winner of the Ekiti Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary held in Ado Ekiti on Saturday.

Oluyede, a medical doctor and business mogul, scored 279 votes to defeat Funso Ayeni, who scored 239 votes, and Mrs. Funmilayo Ogun, 17 votes.

The fourth aspirant, Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi, had stepped down for Oluyede before the voting commenced by announcing publicly at the venue, based on a solid agreement between the duo.

The chairman of the election committee, Senator Ibrahim Dankwabo, thanked the gladiators, party leaders, and the entire PDP members for their peaceful conduct during the exercise.

Dr. Oluyede will now face the APC candidate, Governor Biodun Oyebanji; Dare Bejide, the ADC candidate; and the SDP candidate in the June 2026 Ekiti Governorship Election.

He contested for gubernatorial ambitions in Ekiti State (under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket for June 2022) and has had engagements with other parties.

He started as a medical practitioner in Nigeria: after youth service at the neuro-psychiatric hospital in Yaba, Lagos (1988) and then worked at the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.

He started Private medical practice: At age 27 he opened a clinic (“Bethany Clinic”) in Agege, Lagos; later he relocated to Abesan Estate, Ipaja, Lagos (1994).

Around 2001 he moved abroad (USA, Canada, Australia). He practiced rural emergency medicine in the Caribbean, maintained practice in Australia, also certified by Canadian medical board.

Business interests: He has investments in hospitality (e.g., hotel in Ikere-Ado highway, Ekiti), mining, agriculture, as part of his multi-sector entrepreneurial profile.
