The Chairman of the Ekiti State Environmental Protection Agency(EKSEPA) Chief Bamitale Oguntoyinbo has described the proactive approach of the Biodun Oyebanji led administration to avert flooding, as a genuine commitment to addressing critical infrastructure needs and mitigating the impact of natural disasters.
Speaking with newsmen during the inspections of the ongoing dredging sites across the state ,Oguntoyinbo said the government’s initiative to dredge waterways is a commendable effort to enhance flood control and support local ecosystems.
By investing in dredging and other infrastructure projects, Oguntoyinbo said Oyebanji is taking steps to build a more resilient and prosperous future for the citizens of Ekiti State .
At one of the dredging sites ,Ofigba River in Ise-Ekiti ,the EKSEPA Boss said he was delighted with the level and quality of job being done in the area .
He added that 1.8km.lenght of the river course have been dredged as at today June 19,2025.
All the projects are bring done by direct labour ,as approved by the State Executive Council .
Meanwhile, the people of the community have expressed joy for the development and thanked the Governor of Ekiti State ,Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji,’ for his inclusive administration to safe lives and properties of the people of Ise Ekiti
Other dredging sites visited included the Project at Igemo/Igala and Iwaro River in Aramoko Ekiti
According to him , government commenced the dredging of 3km length of Ofigba River on 4th June ,2025 and that the project is consistent with it’s determination to mitigate the devastating effects of flood on the People of Ekiti State.
Recall that EKSEPA board members led by their chairman had visited dredging of waterways between Ijemu and Inisa streets in Otun-Ekiti .
” I and my board members are very happy with the level of job done by the contractor assigned to dredge the water ways between Ijemu and Inisa streets in Otun-Ekiti.
” I want to commend the General Manager of EKSEPA, Mr Olukayode Adunmo for ensuring that the prople handling the job through direct labour to deliver a good job.
” I want to warn residents ,especially from these two streets, Ijemu and Inisa to desist from dumping refuse in the waterways that is currently undergoing dredging”, he said.
The General Manager of EKSEPA, Mr Olukayode Adunmo, said the objective of the project was to ensure that in Ekiti state metropolis all the towns and villages are not flooded.
