Former Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Yekeen Popoola, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Alhaja Sariyu Atunnise, the revered Iyalode of Kishi and its environs, describing her death as a great loss to the community and to those who knew her closely.
In a statement, Hon. Popoola paid a glowing tribute to the late community leader, noting that Alhaja Atunnise was a woman of remarkable strength, integrity and unwavering commitment to the progress of her people.
He described the late Iyalode as one of the strongest pillars of his group, adding that she remained steadfast and supportive through both challenging and successful moments.
“Alhaja Sariyu Atunnise was not just a respected traditional title holder but also a dependable pillar who stood firmly with us through thick and thin,” Popoola said. “Her wisdom, courage and dedication to community development will remain unforgettable.”
According to him, the late Iyalode played a significant role in fostering unity and promoting the welfare of the people of Kishi and surrounding communities, earning widespread respect and admiration.
Popoola noted that her passing leaves a vacuum that will be difficult to fill, particularly among those who benefitted from her leadership, guidance and motherly support.
He, however, urged members of the community and associates of the late Iyalode to take solace in the impactful life she lived and the enduring legacy she left behind.
Hon. Popoola also prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and for God to grant her family, friends and the entire Kishi community the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
