Governorship Primaries : APC Clears Oyebanji, Omolayo, Disqualifies Olawumi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Committee has cleared Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo to contest the party’s governorship primary election in Ekiti State, while disqualifying Mrs. Abimbola Olajumoke Olawumi.

In its report, the committee confirmed that Governor Oyebanji satisfied all constitutional and party requirements, granting him a clean bill of clearance.

Similarly, Mrs. Omolayo was cleared, having also met the stipulated conditions.

However, Mrs. Olawumi was disqualified on the grounds of not providing sufficient evidence of being a financial member of the party in line with Article 9(1) of the APC Constitution.

The provision stipulates that only registered and financially up-to-date members are eligible to vote and be voted for.

The committee further cited Section 177(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates political party membership as a prerequisite for eligibility to contest for governor.

Meanwhile, Engineer Kayode Ojo was granted provisional clearance, with his final status referred to the National Working Committee (NWC) for further consideration.

The decision followed petitions alleging his failure to meet the mandatory requirement of securing five valid nominators per local government.

The committee explained that the referral was necessary to forestall possible litigations arising from the deficiency.

The report emphasized the importance of compliance with the party’s constitution and guidelines, noting that strict adherence would strengthen APC’s chances in the 2026 Ekiti State Governorship Election.
