Guinea-Bissau  Military Coup::General Horta Nta Na Man Sworn As  Transitional President

GUINEA-BISSAU | General Horta Nta Na Man has been sworn in as the transitional president of Guinea-Bissau, a day after the country’s military announced the removal of the sitting president.

The installation of General Horta Nta Na Man comes amid heightened political tension following the abrupt military takeover.

On Wednesday, army officers declared that they had deposed the president, citing the need to restore order after a disputed election. The military subsequently assumed control of key government institutions and imposed curfews, suspending normal political processes across the country.

The following day, the military appointed General Horta Nta Na Man as transitional leader, tasked with steering the nation through a one-year period of “restoration and stabilization,” according to an official army statement.

The move has drawn concern from the international community, including ECOWAS and the African Union, which have called for the immediate restoration of constitutional rule and the protection of civil liberties.

This development adds another chapter to Guinea-Bissau’s long history of political instability, marked by frequent coups and contested elections. Citizens and observers are closely monitoring the situation as the transitional government begins its tenure amid uncertainty over the country’s democratic future.
