Jennifer , Lady who was fined N450k by Magistrate court for collecting transport fare from a guy called Emmanuel and then refusing to show up in his house has given her side of the story
Jennifer narrated ,:
“I will just make this very short because this whole thing is circulating on the internet… So I will just cut the whole sob story and make it very short. Emmanuel sent me money for transportation so that he could see me, but he is a friend I met online, so I do not really know him, and I have never met him in person.
“So before Emmanuel sent that money to me, I told him to come over to my city first, but he said no, that he could not go to visit a woman. Later, he told me he wanted me to come over, but I also told him that I could not come visit a man I did not really know and had never met before. Out of the blue, this guy just sent me N50,000 with a text message that this was my transportation and he wanted to see me the next day.
“Like you are doing alpha male for me with N50,000? What should I use N50,000 for? So I just ignored him and did not reply to that message. The following day, he sent me another message asking why I was not there yet, but I also ignored it.
“Before I knew it, I started getting calls and threats from people, his friends. I do not know who he gave my number, but they kept threatening me that their friend sent me money. When I started getting calls from all these people, I then reached out to him that I am no longer comfortable with what is going on and that he should send his account number let me forward the money to him.
“He said no, just glared up and started sending some kind of messages. He was so angry, and he said a lot of things that I would not like to say here. After two days, I reached out again and I told him that now that you have sent this money, you know it would not be enough, and you do not want to send your account number so I can refund, come to my city instead.”
“I do not want to say much about this issue because the whole case has been sorted out. I gave him the N450,000. Obviously, it is nothing to me, that is why I was surprised when he sent N50,000 for transport.”
Recall that a Magistrate court fined Jennifer N450k for collecting transport fare from a guy called Emmanuel and then refusing to show up in his house!
In a rather unusual case, a Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos has ordered a young lady identified as Jennifer to pay the sum of ₦450,000 in damages after she was found guilty of obtaining money under false pretenses.
According to court records, Jennifer allegedly collected ₦30,000 from a man named Emmanuel, who claimed he sent her the money for transport fare in anticipation of her visiting him. However, after receiving the funds, she reportedly failed to show up and subsequently cut off communication with him.
Emmanuel later filed a complaint, labeling the act as “fraudulent extortion.” After reviewing the matter, the court ruled that Jennifer’s actions amounted to deception and financial exploitation, thereby awarding Emmanuel damages far exceeding the original transport fare.
