Insecurity : Vet Activities of Commercial motorcyclists in Ekiti- NUJ tells Police  

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) ,Ekiti State Council has tasked government and security agencies to,as matter of urgency, beam their searchlights  on the activities of the commercial motorcyclists (better known as Okada riders ) in the wake of the worsening security situation  in the country.
The union also admonished the Police and its  sister agencies to be proactive  and scale up their intelligence  gathering mechanisms inorder to ward off the imminent incursion of bandits  and terrorists into the  State.
The NUJ,in a communique issued at the end of  July edition of its monthly Congress  commended the Ekiti State Police Command under  the leadership of CP Morenikeji Adesina  for its recent breakthroughs in the fight against kidnappings and banditry with the arrest of two kingpins ,Alhaji Abashe Adamu Idris and Ibrahim Mumini .
The statement signed by the  chairman and the secretary of the union,Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela and Kayode Babatuyi respectively   urged government to activate  its  sensitisation on  adherence to COVID-19   safety protocols.
NUJ  admonished governor  Fayemi to keep to his promise  to Ekiti residents by working  hard to complete all ongoing projects .
” Residents of Ekiti State should get their jabs and adhere strictly with Covid-19 protocols considering the new positive cases recorded in the state.
” The security agencies in Ekiti State should be at red alert and improve their intelligence gathering so as to fish out criminal elements within their ranks.
” The union commended the  Ekiti State Commissioner of Police,  CP Morenikeji Adesina for the various breakthroughs recorded in the fight against crimes particularly the arrest of two kidnap kingpins, Alhaji Abashe Adamu Idris and Ibrahim Mumini Toyin but urged him not to rest on its oasis” the statement  reads in part.
“While commending Governor Kayode Fayemi for  payment of salary as and when due, the house called for payment of outstanding deductions, salaries and other benefits of workers and pensioners.
” The  activities of commercial motorcyclists should be looked into and streamlined so as to fish out criminals operating under the guise of been an operator.
“The ministry of Environment and  authorities of the Ekiti State Waste Management Board should  ensure regular evacuation of refuse deposited at various locations within the state while residents should desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse.” It stated
The union ,however called on the Governor-elect ,Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) to prepare  to hit the ground running by  pluging  “the low hanging fruits that would make his government record better success as soon as he takes oath of office.”
