Prominent All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain in Ogun State, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, has resigned her membership of the ruling party.
In a resignation statement made public on Wednesday, August 27, 2026, Sarafa-Yusuf said the decision followed “an extended period of travelling and spending time with family and… much thought and quiet reflection.”
She disclosed that she had formally informed the leadership of the APC in Ogun State and submitted her resignation letter on the same day.
“My time in the APC has been an important part of my political journey, and I am grateful for the people I have met, the relationships I have built and the experiences that have shaped my understanding of public service and leadership,” she stated.
However, she added that “there comes a time when one must have the courage to reassess one’s path.”
Sarafa-Yusuf said she remains committed to public service and will be guided by values of “service, integrity, inclusion, competence, and a genuine desire to make a difference.”
“It is, therefore, important to reiterate that I am not stepping away from public service. I am taking the next step in the journey,” she said.
According to her, she will return to her professional and business commitments after her holiday while she takes time to “determine the form that the next phase of my political engagement will take.”
She concluded by wishing the APC and all members of the party well.
“At this point in my journey, I believe it is important to consider carefully how best I can continue to contribute to Ogun State and Nigeria, and I am comfortable taking the time to make that decision thoughtfully.
What I know with certainty is that my commitment to public service remains undiminished and that I will continue to be guided by the same values that brought me into public life in the first place: service, integrity, inclusion, competence, and a genuine desire to make a difference.
“It is, therefore, important to reiterate that I am not stepping away from public service. I am taking the next step in the journey.
“And sometimes, moving forward requires giving oneself the space to reflect, to listen, and to decide with clarity where one truly wants to go.
“In the meantime, I will return to my professional and business commitments after my holiday, while I take time to determine the form that the next phase of my political engagement will take.”She said
Her resignation comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party stakeholders in Ogun are yet to react officially to her departure.
