A new President-Elect has been presented to the Executive Committee of the Nigerian Baptist Convention at its meeting in Oyo town in Oyo state on March 17,2026.
He is Rev Dr Olushola David Idowu, the Snr Pastor of Ajayi Dahunsi Memorial Baptist Church, Lagos, Nigeria.
Rev Eben Durodola Nigerian Baptist Convention Public Relations hinted this in a statement .
The Chairman of the Presidential Search Committee, Rev Dr Mrs Rachel Lateju, while presenting her committee’s report, said the process began with mandatory fasting and prayer sessions, emphasizing their sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s leading in order to obtain divine guidance in all the processes involved to ensure protection against external influences and personal interests.
She said 147 valid nominations, comprising 21 candidates, were received. Candidates were screened and eight of them were eventually shortlisted.
Rev Rachael Lateju noted that after careful selection processes were followed as led by the Holy Spirit, the committee prayerfully reached a unanimous decision based on the comprehensive and satisfactory performance of Rev Dr Olushola David Idowu who has been recommended as the President-Elect for the Nigerian Baptist Convention.
The Executive Committee of the Nigerian Baptist Convention unanimously endorsed the recommendation of Rev Idowu as the new President-Elect, to be ratified at the 2026 Annual Convention Session in April in Abuja. Dr Idowu is credited with authoring 15 books, over 35 academic publications and 26 articles published in local and international journals.
