The Rotary E-Club of One Nigeria, District 9126, has launched a 3-day free cancer screening program for 100 residents of Ekiti State.
The initiative, which is in partnership with the Femi Moniniolu Foundation, offers screenings for breast cancer, cervical cancer, uterine cancer, and prostate cancer.
Speaking with journalists at the opening ceremony at the Funmi Adunni Olatunji Diagnostic/Wellness Centre in Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti (EKSUTH), the club’s president, Ganiyat Tijani, highlighted the motivation behind the program.
Tijani explained that the effort was prompted by the increasing number of Nigerians who suffer from serious illnesses that often go undetected due to financial constraints.
Tijani, represented by the Vice President, Ajagun Maam, expressed concern over the high incidence of cancer among Nigerians.
He emphasized that the screening would help participants understand their health status and receive appropriate treatment if needed, stressing that the screening will span from 13th to 15th of November.
“I want to commend the hospital management for allowing us to use this facility. It is heartbreaking that we have lost loved ones to various illnesses.
“That’s why we decided to offer free cancer screenings to help people understand their health status. We see this as a small way to benefit our community.
“We are screening 100 people for breast cancer, prostate cancer, cervical cancer, and uterine cancer,” he added.
The Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Professor Kayode Olabanji, hailed the foundation for its commitment to public welfare, describing the initiative as a significant contribution to the health of Ekiti residents.
Olabanji, represented by the Acting Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at EKSUTH, Professor Oladele Olatunya, assured that the hospital would make full use of the facilities provided, aiming to help patients lead healthier lives.
He encouraged beneficiaries to seek consultation as needed, stressing that proactive health management is crucial in preventing illnesses.
“We commend you for organizing free cancer screenings and assure you that the resources provided will be put to good use,” he said.
On his part, the representative of the Femi Moniniolu Foundation, Ayokunle Oluwasinmirin added that the screening initiative is part of the foundation’s campaign to reduce cancer risks among Ekiti residents.
