Troops Overrun Terrorists in North East, Recover Arms, Ammunition, Motorcycles

Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have recorded major breakthroughs in a series of counter-terrorism operations against Boko Haram, Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS), and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno and Yobe states.

At Kumshe in Borno State, soldiers of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade successfully repelled a night attack on their Forward Operating Base. Backed by precision airstrikes from Nigerian Air Force platforms, the troops inflicted heavy losses on the insurgents. Exploitation after the encounter revealed over 20 terrorist corpses, including dismembered remains from the bombardment hastily buried in shallow graves, along with recovered weapons.

On the same day, troops of Sector 1 carried out offensive operations at Dipchari, near Banki Junction in Bama Local Government Area, where they engaged another group of terrorists. Several insurgents were neutralised during the firefight. Items recovered included one Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) tube, two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, 16 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles.

In a separate operation, troops under Sector 2, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), launched a long-range tactical mission around the Ndoksa general area near Buni Gari, Yobe State. The operation resulted in the elimination of several terrorists and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and two motorcycles.

According to military authorities, the coordinated operations have denied the insurgents freedom of movement, weakened their firepower, and disrupted their logistics across the region.

The Defence Headquarters commended the troops for their gallantry and urged them to maintain the momentum in the fight against terrorism.
