A lawyer representing @dr.hussam73 has voiced serious concerns about his declining health and reports of routine torture during his detention by occupation authorities.
In an interview with Arab48 published Thursday, attorney Gheed Kassem revealed that Dr. Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, had suffered violent physical abuse that left him with visible bruises on his head, neck, ribs, and back.
Despite experiencing complications from the assaults, including an irregular heartbeat, he was denied medical treatment.
Dr. Abu Safiya is currently held in solitary confinement at Ofer military prison and he now weighs less than 60 kilograms and has lost 40 kilograms since his abduction in late December. She described his appearance as “emaciated.”
The senior paediatrician and neonatologist is also confined to an underground cell that is completely isolated and receives no natural light.
