Ekiti  Warns  Residents Against Building On Waterways ; As EKSEPA Officials  Visit  Dredging Sites

The Biodun Abayomi  Oyebanji (BAO) led administration has  renewed its commitment  in tackling the menace of  flooding and create safe environment for living.The  officials  and board members  of the Ekiti State Environmental Protection Agency(EKSEPA) gave this assurance during a  scheduled visits to some  flood prone areas in Ekiti State .

The first port of call was Otun-Ekiti  at the  dredging at Inisa river in the town, which is the headquarters of Moba Local Government area of the state .
Speaking to journalists  at Otun-Ekiti, the Chairman of the Agency, Chief Bamitale Oguntoyinbo who expressed satisfaction on the level of work done at the site   warned residents of Otun-Ekiti to desist from  building or dumping refuse in the waterways within the community.
Oguntoyinbo, accompanied by other members of board disclosed that the on the spot assessment became imperative in order for members to have first hand information  on the project and to also  know  the level and quality of  work being carried out by the contractor.
Chief Oguntoyinbo, a former State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) hinted that dredging would be carried out  in 15 areas spread across seven Local Government areas of the state .
Among the communities  marked for dredging included Moba ,Ado-Ekiti  Aramoko, Ise and Ode-Ekiti.Others are Ido-Ekiti and Ogotun.
He expressed  delight with the level of work  done at  dredging of  the waterways between Ijemu and Inisa streets.all in Otun-Ekiti.

Oguntoyinbo said  ” I and my board members are very happy with the level of job done by the contractor assigned to dredge the water ways between Ijemu and Inisa streets in Otun-Ekiti.

” I want to commend the General Manager of EKSEPA, Mr Olukayode Adunmo for ensuring that the contractor handling the job deliver a good job.

” I want to warn residents of Otun-Ekiti especially from these two streets, Ijemu and Inisa to desist from dumping refuse in the waterways that is currently undergoing dredging”,  he said.

Oguntoyinbo advised the chairman of Moba Local Government Area, Mr Bamidele Fadugba to provide waste bins at designated site for residents to dispose their refuse at affordable price.

In his remarks, the  General Manager of EKSEPA, Mr Olukayode Adunmo, said the objective of the project was to ensure that in Ekiti state metropolis all the towns and villages are not flooded.

Adunmo said the dredging of the waterways of Ijemu and Inisa streets was given priority to ensure that residents and Indigenes living in the area are not affected by flood during the rainy season.

” I invited the chairman and board members to the dredging site to see what the agency are currently doing to avert flooding in Otun-Ekiti.

” The objectives of the project was to ensure that no lives or properties are lost to flooding in the rainy season.

” I want to commend our amiable Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji for providing funds to carry out the dredging of the waterways in all parts of Ekiti.

” Also, in 2024, Ekiti did not witness any flooding because the agency was proactive, we started dredging waterways in Jan.2022.

Adunmo warned residents of the community to desist from dumping refuse in the drainages. He added.
