The Chinese government has hinted of her readiness to work with the incoming administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as soon as it was sworn in on May 29.
Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, disclosed this at a one-day seminar held at the University of Abuja on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
He also hinted the Chinese officials had met with Nigeria’s President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu to discuss diplomatic and trade relations.
According to him, China has identified people-to-people cooperation, which leads to cultural exchanges, as one of the main focus areas in its relationship with Nigeria and other countries.
“I have talked with the president-elect and the vice-president-elect, and I believe we shared a lot of ideas, and I have also shared my ideas and practices with the current President Buhari, and China believes that the current president has set a very solid foundation for the next government,” Mr Cui said. “In spite of the challenges Nigeria faced, the country has smart, hardworking and talented people.”
